Songbird: A Sonnet

A poem written in response to a painting by William Henry Margetson, 2018.

Oh she the girl so fair and blush of cheek.
Her smile is bright her heart open, so bliss.
Love melts the soul her voice so soft of speak,
The skin of gold her lips so red to kiss.
Sometime so hot the sun quivers its ray
Alas, divine and sweet, she plays the fox.
Oh sing song bird! Play all through night through day
Music radiant, delicate yet strong as ox.
But waves we sail are dark, danger awaits.
Water; not blue but red, nature comes in.
To hear her voice, the body in all elates.
The touch of silver ignites my skin, your skin.
For thy sweet love glory and dreams it brings,
The song of life, of hope, and all you sing.
